A Citrus Themed Wedding Reception

A teacher at my school got married this past spring. Her wedding was intimate and limited to close family and friends. However, the kids at school wanted to celebrate with her and her new husband. My principal decided to have a simple wedding reception at school just for the kids. It would be an opportunity for them to experience a receiving line, learn etiquette in knowing what to say to the bride and groom, and practice manners while enjoying cake and punch. That's where I come in. My principal asked me to put the reception together and provide cake and punch for the festivities. I was delighted to be part of such a happy occasion.

The bride's invitations were simple and contemporary with a Gerber daisy and a satin bow in a happy shade of yellow. Her wedding colors were citrus: orange, lime, and lemon. I was more than happy to take it from there. The cake I created served 140, with the bottom tier being double chocolate chip and the top three being in the citrus colors. The cake was Mandarin orange, luscious lemon, and 7-up cake with green gel coloring all layered with my favorite buttercream frosting. I kept the cake simple and decked it out in a gorgeous assortment of silk flowers. The support underneath is four glass tumblers with all three citrus fruits tucked under the cake next to green hydrangeas. The bride and groom took the top tier home, and the kids and staff were happy to consume every last speck of the remaining tiers of cake. What a great way for kids to learn good manners!
