Just as you would with a fine painting, once your masterpiece is a reality you must make certain that great care is taken in getting it to the reception in one piece and setting it up properly. Make sure the cake table is sturdy and that the legs underneath at LOCKED. You don’t want to be one of those brides whose cake table collapses and smashes everything! Round or square may be an option that would enhance the cake, but of more important consideration is picking the right color linens and decorations to compliment the cake. As well as a beautiful cloth on your cake table, consider putting a stand under a cloth to give the cake a little lift. You may also be able to light the cake with special lighting to really draw the eye. Finally, don't hide your wedding cake in the corner. Have it set on risers or near the entrance of your reception.

Magazine quality cake photographers consider more than the detailed decorations on the side of the cake. They look at the lighting, the background, and the decorative elements around the cake. Cake stands are very popular to give a smaller cake a boost but is not really essential with a larger cake. If you want to garnish your cake with fresh flowers, find out if the cake designer will work with your florist, or if you are responsible for the blooms. If the florist is running the show, will she have the time or energy to decorate the cake? Will she protect the edible parts of the cake from the raw cut flower ends? Will it enhance or detract from the cake?

Displaying your cake before it's cut and consumed is where it’s fun. Guests will admire and take pictures, and people will enjoy seeing this pivotal part of your wedding reception. Figure out your options. Have fun dressing it up by draping the table with sumptuous fabrics and decorating it with motifs, colors, and flowers to match the cake. This is your special day, so have fun getting the cake of your dreams.
